Tremorgenic mycotoxin from Penicillium paraherquei.
A tremorgenic mycotoxin was isolated from Penicillium paraherquei Abe ex G. Smith and identified as verruculogen. It was produced at the rate of approximately 1 mg/g of the dried fungal mycelium cultured on peptone-enriched Czapek-Dox medium at 28 degrees C.
متن کاملNovel metabolites from Penicillium crustosum, including penitrem E, a tremorgenic mycotoxin.
Two new indolic metabolites were isolated from Penicillium crustosum and separated from other penitrem mycotoxins by high-performance liquid chromatography. Penitrem D is a deoxy-penitrem A. Penitrem E is dechloro-penitrem A and was shown to be tremorgenic in mice, although it has only one-third of the activity of penitrem A. Roquefortine was also shown, for the first time, to be an important m...
متن کاملPharmacological effects of the tremorgenic mycotoxin fumitremorgin A.
Some pharmacological effects of a potent tremorgenic mycotoxin, fumitremorgin A (FTA), on the rabbit were studied. FTA (10-200 micrograms/kg, i.v.) caused clonic and tonic convulsion accompanied by nystagmus and miosis in conscious rabbits, after a latent period. Even in decorticated or decerebrated rabbits, FTA (100-200 micrograms/kg, i.v.) could induce violent motor effects similar to those o...
متن کاملAflatrem: a tremorgenic mycotoxin with acute neurotoxic effects.
Tremorgenic mycotoxins induce neurologic symptoms ranging from mental confusion to tremors, seizures and death, and are apparently the only class of mycotoxins with significant central nervous system activity. Tremorgens have been implicated in a number of neurologic diseases of cattle collectively known as staggers syndromes, and pose significant agricultural and health problems for both cattl...
متن کاملIsolation and partial characterization of a mycotoxin from Penicillium roqueforti.
Extracts of pure cultures of Penicillium roqueforti isolated from toxic feed samples and of P. roqueforti NRRL 849 were lethal to rats by either intraperitoneal or oral administration. Purification studies guided by this test led to the isolation of a major toxin which showed intraperitoneal and oral median lethal dose values in weanling rats of 11 and 115 mg/kg, respectively. Partial character...
